I’m not one to cry over spilt milk, and I certainly wouldn’t usually miss an item of terminal tackle too much, so I was a bit surprised that I felt so gutted when I lost one of these ‘Weighters Crusties’. Especially as it looked like it was my fault (seems I hadn’t closed a safety clip properly – I blame it on setting up in half-light!).
Weighters is a small company, which means that it can afford to adapt to make innovative products for anglers. The ‘Crusties’ that I used are textured weights that are designed to blend in with the bottom of the lake, resulting on all the emphasis being on your bait, not your rig. As I hope you can see from the picture here, they would be absolutely superb over sand and gravel bars, prime feeding points for specimen fish. Imagine a weight coated in fine gravel and you will have a good impression of what these are. It’s like fishing with the lake or river bed as a weight!
As I said at the start, I was gutted when I lost one of the coated Flat Pear Bombs. Luckily, I’d been sent a coated traditional Swivel Pear Bomb, too, and that performed just as well.
Keeping your end tackle hidden from fish is a tactic that is fairly guaranteed to help improve your catch rate, so these Weighters Crusties will be a welcome addition to any tacklebox. Weighters also produce standard smooth coated weights, as well as coated Lumi Leads (just leave them in daylight and they charge up, glowing at night. Something to try when you’re struggling for bites?).
Textured Weighters Crusties coated swivel pear bombs are available in 1.1oz, 1.5oz, 2oz, 3oz, 4oz and 5oz sizes. The flat pear bomb versions are available in 1.1oz, 1.5oz, 2oz and 3oz. All cost £1.10 each, plus postage and packaging.
Smooth coated versions and Lumi Leads are also available at the same price.
Weighters also make uncoated leads, so just drop them a line for a quote.
