You know that feeling you get when you step out of your door in the morning, slide into a comfortable car seat, turn the key and just KNOW it’s going to fire up beautifully, because you bought a quality motor? Well, I don’t.
I seem to have a fetish for extremely fast cars that break a lot. Most people can’t fathom it, but it’s a fact. With other things in my life, however, I like the confidence that comes with reliability AND quality. When it comes to shades, I get that with Polaroid. If I was told to walk into a shop and that I had one opportunity to buy a pair of sunglasses that wouldn’t let me down, I’d plump for Polaroid. To me, they are the German car of sunglasses!
The Polaroid Rig P7202C sunglasses come nicely packaged in a stiff protective case. This is a feature that I like with Polaroid sunglasses, as mine tend to get chucked in bags and cars, which would result in them getting scratched and broken if they weren’t properly protected.
The case also contains a cleaning cloth and the all important ‘Test Polarization’ sticker on the bottom. Even if you don’t own a pair of Polaroids, borrow a case from a friend who does and test your own on this sticker. I bet a number of them don’t actually contain polarising lenses at all! As an angler, I’m sure you’re aware just want an advantage genuine polarising lenses give you. Even on ‘non-sunny’ days, you can see far further beneath the surface of the water.
These particular glasses are a nice snug, contoured fit, which is essential quality when wearing sunglasses for fishing; you don’t want light filtering in through gaps and you definitely don’t want them falling off! Mind you, these ones would float if they did manage to work their way loose, so it wouldn’t necessarily be the end of the world. They are also pretty lightweight, yet remain sturdy.
There is a lot written about the colour of lenses and I do know some anglers who take this very seriously indeed, having a few pairs for use throughout the day. Mind you, they mainly fish abroad…where the sun makes an appearance occasionally! These yellow lenses are specifically suited to low light conditions, such as dawn or dusk. If you could only buy one pair of sunglasses, yellow would be a good colour to go for; not only do most of us find that fishing at dawn and dusk is the most productive time, but UK weather seems to dictate that any time of the day is ‘low light’ these days!
I was having a chat with a knowledgeable lure angler this week about the young generation of lure anglers coming along and how the ‘style’ and ‘look’ is important to them, as well as the fishing itself. Well, the Polaroid brand is highly regarded, looks pretty stylish and is proven as a product that is fit for the job. Their appeal should be fairly wide, appealing to this new breed of angler, as well as the slightly older generation…..such as me!
The Polaroid Rig 7202C sunglasses retail for around £50 and are available here:

If you want a quality pair of sunglasses, priced in the mid-range bracket, give them a look. You won’t be disappointed.
