I ordered this rod and reel combination – the first time I’ve ever purchased a ‘kit’ – in Spring and it’s already become my tackle of choice.
The rod is particularly brilliant value as it’s a proper piece of kit and by that I mean it delivers performance. The blank is thin, the finish is high quality, and the recovery of the blank is fast meaning striking and casting is sweet and crisp. It really does look and perform like a Maver rod of about £70-80.
If you separate the rod and reel and imagine the carbon rod has cost you £20 then it really is a cracking bargain as it’s suitable for chub, carp, barbel or tench. Even roach and skimmers!
So if the rod’s £20 that leaves £9.99 for the reel (which comes spooled with line) and that’s also great value. The reel has a front drag which is fairly precise and can be set to give line when fish surge. I’d say it’s not quite in the same league as the rod, which is exceptional value, but it’s still a superb bargain. You really can’t go wrong!
