As only an occasional carp angler and someone who largely prefers home comforts to a night on the bank. I was in the market for a good quality bivvy that didn’t cost the earth. I mean, just have a look at some of the prices out there and you’ll be shocked; £300-plus for a glorified tent? There is no way you’ll catch me spending that much.
A quick search around the net led to me to Dragon Carp Direct. I’d bought – and been happy with – numerous items at one of their roadshows, but never from the main website. I was impressed by the choice and, of course, the prices when compared to some of the ‘name’ brands.
The Bunka One Man Bivvy looked ideal. The dimensions (210cm deep, 280cm wide and 140cm high) meant it wasn’t going to be too pokey and at just £40 it was within the budget I’d set aside. I took the plunge and bought one.
The delivery wasn’t cheap but it was very fast and a couple of days later I was on the bank ready to put it up. As promised it was very easy to construct and I had it erected in just a few minutes. Size-wise it was very spacious and there was plenty of room for my bedchair and other essentials. I was also impressed with the robust feel to it – and the built in groundsheet was another time-saving bonus.
The material felt thick and the twin skin ensured I was condensation free and entirely dry. We only had a light shower overnight but I’m certain it would withstand the heaviest of downpour.
I packed up (fishless I might add!) at lunchtime the next day and found the bivvy just as easy to dissemble as it had to been to put up.
I’m well chuffed with the Bunka and would have no hesitation in recommending to other occasional night fishers.
