Hmmmm….funny how it’s always me that gets to review the food products for Anglers’ Net, eh?!

I’d never tried Beef Jerky before, although I’d often seen it for sale and wondered what it was like. I happened to mention this to an angling friend once and was immediately told that I just had to try it! I’m certainly glad that I listened.

So, how come we’re reviewing food on an angling site, then? To be honest, despite my love of all things nutritional, there aren’t that many products that would make it to these pages, but Beef Jerky is regarded as an ‘outdoor’ type of food and appropriate for anglers. Well, that’s my excuse!!

Beef Jerky isn’t necessarily the most aesthetically pleasing form of food, but is incredibly tasty once you start chewing. To me, that seemed to be the secret – chew it for ages. The flavour just keeps flowing and flowing! This, I believe, is due to the way that it is made. The original meat is reduced down to a fraction of its original size – like an organic stock cube!

With a shelf life of 18 months, beef jerky is a product that many ‘survivalists’ use. It’s light, to carry, but very nutritious. More importantly for me, it tastes nice! I really did enjoy chewing away at this stuff, my preference being for the Spicy Hot Peppered variety. Yum!!

This is what the beef jerky looks like!Currently, three flavours are available – Original, Spicy Hot Peppered and Teriyaki (a sweeter variety). They come in 50g, 100g and 200g bags at a price of £2.30, £4.10 and £7.70 per bag respectively. The original flavour also comes in a smaller 25g bag for £1.20.

If you’ve never tried beef jerky, give the Wild West Beef Jerky a try! If you have tried it before, you now know where to get it online – http://www.wildwestjerky.co.uk/ Nobody’s going to say that it will improve your catch rate….hang on, I never got round to trying it as bait. Now, there’s a thought!

Tight lines,

Elton
