I’ve been a pole angler for almost 20 years having started off with a graphite 9.5 metre DAM pole that was a battle to hold before eventually moving to a Maver Powerlite, which at 14.5m is a remarkable piece of kit for £399.
In that time I’ve seen pole technology alter as well as styles and I’ve been intrigued by the new ‘pull’ systems that emerged for top kits. My poles have never featured this so I was unsure whether it was media hype or a genuine benefit so to find out I spent £20 on an elasticed pulla from Dragon. If it was a load of rubbish twenty quid wasn’t the biggest investment.
Straight from my first session I realised I’d been missing a trick in terms of control. The ability to change the tension of elastic through the fight simply by pulling the elastic out of the side of the pole puts the angler in charge. I’ve been landing carp to 10lb in a fraction of the time.
I’ve now got two pulla tops with different fitted elastic strengths – give it a go as it is 100 per cent a better solution that old style kits.
