I’ve started to upgrade my fishing equipment looking to embrace the new style of tackle.
If you look around there’s different styles of rods, many of them designed specifically for big fish in lakes, and they come in sleeves so you can keep them set up all of the time. It’s convenience fishing.
I had £50 set aside as a maximum for a feeder rod and I’m delighted that I bought the CB2 Carp Feeder Combo as recommended by my fishing pal, Stan Deakin.
For thanks to Stan I saved £10 on the deal… and got a freespool reel with two spare spools into the bargain.
Let me tell you a little about the rod, as since I’ve had it I have had quite a lot of big mixed hauls from carp over 10lb to decent bream.
The actual carbon blank feels like a ‘proper’ fishing rod – it is very slim and lightweight and has a crispness when you cast out – give it a waggle or cast out and it recovers very quickly.
It’ll cast method feeders, traditional groundbait feeders, or straight bombs comfortably and accurately meaning you can put your bait up the ledge tight against islands.
The playing curve is sweet and progressive – no sign of flat spots – and the handle is well made from a cork/duplon combination. The rod also has lined SIC guides and a choice of three quiver tips.
As for the reel, it is a good workhorse and I always use the freespool device when after carp… you just never know how violent the take will be. Thanks for the advice, Stan, I owe you one.
