This is a 3 piece, 12 ft (3.6 metre) boat match rod which comes with 4 inter-changeable tips. The rod can be used with either a multiplier or F/S reel. With a tip in place the rod is of 2 equal 6ft lengths, the other tips are carried in a tube which fits into the rod bag.
I particularly like the stainless inserts in the rings, no chipped or cracked rings after a knock here. The rings on the 2 main sections are 3 leg Fuji, while those on the tips are single leg to give more flex.
I was pleased to see that the tips have a large percentage of glass in their construction, others I’ve used have too much carbon, which makes them liable to snapping. Another nice touch is that should a tip break or you lose one, you can buy singles.
The rod has a nice slim handle with a fixed reel seat. Although the reel seat is fixed, some leeway is given by both ends of the seat being adjustable, allowing the reel to be moved up or down the handle within the seat.
In use, the rod has a medium action with power further down the bottom section. I’ve used this rod on several occasions now with 1 to 5 oz leads and not had any problems casting them. Bite detection is superb, even with the stiffest tip in place. I landed 22 bream in a session and it didn’t drop one. That’s impressive, as bream are good at getting off the hook.
This is the best multi-tip boat rod I’ve used to date and, at a RRP of £89.99, it’s the most expensive, but expect that price to be discounted, making it a very good buy.
