We were contacted recently by James Clear at www.go-fishing-spain.com in the hope that we might be able to place a link to his new website from Anglers Net. However, after a quick look at the content it soon became apparent that his efforts deserved more than just a link!

The site is essentially an angler’s guide to fishing southern Spain, throughout the Andalucia, Valenciana, and Murcia regions. I’ve seen a number of supposed ‘guide sites’ for fishing abroad, and whilst a few do offer usable information, the vast majority are extremely amateurish and often woefully out of date. Thankfully, James has done a proper job, and the site gives excellent information about everything you could possibly need to know before planning a trip, everything from licence requirements, to waters available and species within.

In addition, James has published a 94-page Book titled ‘Carp, Barbel and Paella: A Guide to Fishing in Andalucia’ which can be purchased from his site or direct via our Anglers Net Amazon Book Store at £14.94

Having read the book I must say that it’s an impressive piece of work. It covers everything you need to know about fishing in southern Spain, with an introduction to the regions, details on the species available including; Barbel, Carp, Bass, Nase, Trout, Pike, and Eels and methods that prove successful for their capture.

A detailed rules and regulations chapter includes all the information you need to ensure you don’t fall foul of the law and even gives details on how to obtain your licences online in advance of your trip, much easier than trying to obtain them once you are there! There is also detailed information on approximately sixty fishing locations throughout the regions, and each water has maps, directions, and a series of hints and tips to help you get amongst the species present.

Many of the waters featured are free to fish and contain stunning specimens including carp and barbel to over 30lb – and many are a stones throw from key routes and holiday destinations. To be honest I’ve holidayed in many of these regions in the past and had no idea of some of the waters that were right on my doorstep and free to fish!

Next time I’m in southern Spain I will certainly have this book with me, along with my trusty telescopic rod and a tub of worms!
