Wayne Swinscoe took the honours on a baking hot day at Evesham, with a 9-00 net from peg 63. The Nottingham – based river fishing legend started his match fishing maggots over groundbait, and caught a 4lb bream on his third put in of the day. Sadly, no more were forthcoming – so Wayne got his head down and concentrated on catching small bleak and chublets on the pole shallow at 13 metres to build up his weight. When he pulled his net out, even he was surprised how well the small fish weighed – and the Maver Bait Tech ace took victory with over 2lb to spare.
Second on the day was Shakespeare Superteam’s Jamie Robbins. Drawn on the next peg to Wayne, Jamie also managed a bonus bream early on in the match over groundbait. With no more bites forthcoming, Jamie spent the rest of the day targetting eels and perch on the feeder, to finish with 6-13-0.
Barford DAA’s Dave Harris finished third, from peg 36 below the Avon’s confluence with the River Avon. Dave took a couple of small chub and a big eel on bomb and lobworm, and several chunky perch on a six metre whip to finish with 6-4-0.
