The following comes in from Martin Sutton, over to you Martin;
This morning I fished the Bottom Lake at Moor Farm. The day was heralded by thick fog patches, both on the journey there and at the lake. I set up on Peg 1 and saw that there was little movement on the surface, and so I started fishing with a method feeder and small halibut pellets. This started to produce a steady stream of 3lb Common Carp. I set up my other rod with a small controller float and a hair rigged hook length and alternated the hook bait between dog biscuit and cubes of stale bread.
The fish soon started to feed happily on the surface, but took all the freebies and left the hook bait. Slowly the mist cleared and as the blue sky, bright sunshine together with high pressure took over the bites started to slow down. A hot air balloon landing in an adjacent field was a welcome distraction. I continued with one rod fishing the surface and one still using the method, but changed the method hook bait to soft bacon grill pellets. The bites started again.
Just as I sat down to eat my lunch the rod fishing on the surface took off and a fish sped across the lake. After a battle to keep it from getting into the snags it finally came to the net. I could see it was a nice fish and the scales confirmed this; a Mirror Carp of 13lbs 8ozs and measured 27 inches (69 cms) from nose to tail which had taken a chum mixer dog biscuit.
No more bites were had on the surface rig but several more hard fighting commons were caught on the method rig. Yet another splendid day at Moor Farm
