Suzuki is recognised worldwide for making advanced technology and innovative features available to boaters of all types — not just those who run the largest, highest-horsepower outboards. This tradition continues with the unveiling of Suzuki’s new DF115BG and DF140BG four stroke outboards, the first in their class to offer all the advantages of drive-by-wire technology.
The reliability and precise control of Suzuki’s drive-by-wire technology has been proven for years on Suzuki’s larger horsepower models (150HP-350HP) but the enhancements to Suzuki’s new DF115BG and DF140BG go far beyond the integration of drive-by-wire technology.
An upgraded compression ratio of 10.6:1 helps these new 2.0 litre displacement outboards achieve better top speed and acceleration by improving thermal efficiency. Fuel efficiency has also been increased as compared to Suzuki’s existing DF115A and DF140A models. Factory testing has demonstrated as much as 5% – 7% better fuel efficiency for the DF140BG across mid-range to high-end cruising speeds. The new DF115BG has demonstrated up to 5% – 6% better fuel efficiency at cruising speed.
Other improvements include a 40 Amp alternator on both models that delivers improved output and battery charging performance at low idle speeds — ideal for craft with lots of electronics such as today’s power-hungry fishing boats that spend a lot of time trolling.
While much has changed under the cowling, some enhancements to the new DF115BG and DF140BG are obvious to the eye. They both feature a sporty, streamlined exterior design that looks excellent on any type of boat. With 508mm (L) and 635 (X) shaft lengths available, the new DF115BG and DF140BG outboards are an ideal power choice for a wide range boats. Both new outboards boast new graphics and are available in Suzuki’s Pearl Nebular Black colour.
The redesigned cowling isn’t just for great looks either. It also incorporates a new air intake structure with improved water separation and a silencer – resonator system to attenuate engine sounds and provide a pleasant boating experience at all engine speeds/RPM.
To make routine maintenance easier, Suzuki has made it possible to replace the oil filter simply by removing the upper engine cover. A new Oil Spill Catcher surrounding the oil filter mount allows for changing the filter without making a mess. Suzuki has also added an easy access Water Detection Fuel Filter to help protect the engine against contaminated fuel.
Mark Beeley, National Sales Manager for Suzuki GB’s Marine Division said, “We’re really excited to be able to bring yet another Suzuki first to the UK market. The proven precision control technology that these new models offer has proved to be a really popular feature in our larger outboards by providing smooth and instant throttle control. It adds the advantage of less friction and resistance compared to the mechanical type that use control cables and, with the integration of our unique Lean Burn Fuel Control, these outboards deliver improved fuel economy over a wide range of speeds.”
He continued, “It’s great to see the factory extending the range by incorporating the innovative, state-of-the-art features from larger models into the smaller horsepower outboards, giving you even more reasons to choose Suzuki as the Ultimate Outboard Motor.”
The DF115BG and DF140BG will be available for order from the end of the year.
