On the Grand Union Canal Dave Murdoch Snr landed a splendid 3lb 1oz perch (we hope to have a picture of this fish for next weeks report which was witnessed by a club bailiff).
At the Stoke Hammond layby there are plenty of skimmers, roach and perch to be caught with a fish a chuck being the order of the day if your presentation and bait is correct.
At Woodlands Martin Fane from Pulloxhill was into the Tench on Thursday on a short afternoon session, tempting out 3 nicely conditioned fish up to 3 1/2 pounds on sweetcorn.
Andrew Weatherly from Luton also enjoyed some sport mid-week with a nice mixed bag of tench, carp, roach and skimmers on a variety of baits. The fish were caught at a variety of depths too, showing that by ringing the changes with different presentations and baits can reap fine rewards.
Venue regular Nobby Parkes from Barton fished a midweek afternoon session and was rewarded with a number of carp on worm.
Another venue regular known as Taffy also had a good mixed bag on a Friday afternoon session with carp, tench and bream gracing the folds of his landing net. Pellet was the successful bait.
Ashley Miles from Kempston fished the hot number 1 peg on Sunday morning, and was rewarded with 3 nice tench, falling to corn and bread
Anglers are again reminded to take their litter home with them, and not abandon it in the car-park or on the track.
Anglers are also reminded that the Mere is not yet open for fishing (the ropes criss-crossing the water should be enough of a giveaway, if not there are a number of signs clearly marked no fishing/keep out).
Browns Angling Centre in Leighton Buzzard held their Nash Open Day on Saturday which was a great success. The Nash boys were on hand to give advice on bait and rigs and JAG Products were there showing off their excellent range of lightweight stainless steel products.
Details of the Luton AC carp match will be released in the newsletter with prizes so far being provided by JAG Products, CC Moore, Fishing Wizard and Nash.
Luton AC has invested over £20,000 in stocking and fisheries improvement work during 2009. This investment is ongoing and is reflected by the number of work parties taking place throughout March, April & May. Membership prices will remain unchanged for the coming season with all waters except the river sections remaining open for the full 12 months. It is hoped that the new Barretts Mere on the Tingrith Complex will be open for fishing on 1st June.
The next work party is on Saturday 24th April at the Great Ouse Biddenham where platform repairs will be taking place so if you wish to lend a hand check the web site home page for work party details and registration form or contact Dave Edwards at the club office on 01582-728114 or Joanne Edwards on 01582-603466 or 07903048280. Remember you will not need to pay the £10 work party levy (adults and intermediates) when renewing your membership for next season if you attend just one of the work parties.
