A reminder that the new 2011/12 membership season started on 1st June 2011 with the river season starting this week on 16th June 2011. Members will have received their newsletters and renewal forms over the past couple of weeks. Renewal and new membership forms can however be downloaded and also paid for on line at www.lutonac.org Please do not go fishing before your new membership book arrives as the clubs bailiffs are unable to check on the bank that you have renewed and you will be asked to leave or pay for a day ticket if fishing the Grand Union Canal or South Lagoon.
Luton AC offers fantastic fishing for most species with Carp to 37lb+, Tench 8lb+, Bream 10lb+, Chub 7lb+, Zander 16lb+, Pike near 30lb, Perch 3lb+ and Roach and Rudd over 2lb. All of the clubs stillwaters including 12 miles of the Grand Union Canal are open all year round and alot offer secure parking close to the venue. Unlike some clubs Luton AC do not charge a premium for night fishing or fishing between March and June. Money from subscriptions is continually being ploughed back into improving the fisheries for the benefit of its members through work parties throughout the year.
Anglers should avoid the Grand Union Canal between Slapton and the Three Locks on Sunday 19th June as the annual Hasler Canoe Race will be taking place between 11am and 2pm. There will be lots of racing canoes thrashing the water to a foam plus marshalls along the course making fishing impossible.
A new lock has been fitted to the upsteam access for Lavendon Mill and members fishing there are reminded to take their club key when the new river season opens on 16th June.
Once again there is a bogus bailiff trying to con money out of unsuspecting anglers around Leighton Buzzard. All Luton AC bailiffs carry photo ID cards and are happy to show you their ID if requested. When paying you will be given a printed Luton AC day ticket and our bailiffs will never take your money with promises of someone else coming along later with the ticket. If you are approached by this individual please phone the police with a description.
Trevor Kitchener tempted a 22lb common from North House Lake fishing at 20 yards over just a handful of free offerings. Paul Tidmarsh had a 20lb 2oz mirror with son Braidan having an 8lb+ bream and Simon Regan an 11lb common.
On the adjacent South Lagoon plenty of tench, roach, bream and skimmers are being caught with some anglers having 70lb+ nets.
At Woodlands Eric Brandham & Dave Brosnan continue to do well with tench to 4lb 8oz plus carp and bream keeping the two friends busy during their latest evening session. In fact the sport was so hectic that Eric tells me he had to bring his rod in to have a rest!
The winner of our June photo competition which closes on 30st June 2011 will receive 10kg of the new Starmer Baits Coconut Fish boilies. It is open to anyone (members and non members) submitting a digital photo taken on any Luton AC controlled water and it can be of absolutely anything eg a sunset on the canal, a nice fish, wildlife etc. The photos submitted cannot be over a month old, the judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the result. So get snapping and forward your pictures to our usual email address catchreports@lutonac.org or send from your mobile to 07704462635.
Please phone/text your catch reports from Luton AC waters to 07704462635 or email catchreports@lutonac.org and if you have pictures taken on your phone send picture messages to 07704462635. Remember to always use an unhooking mat when targetting specimen fish, keeping the fish as low to the ground as possible when taking photos.
