Weekly Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area sponsored by Starmer Baits, Nash Bait & Nash TT

The Fisheries Management is in great need of spades, shovels, forks, brooms, rakes, digging spoons for posts, post wackers, sledge hammers and wheelbarrows, any tools are gratefully received. This shortage was brought about by the theft of virtually every single piece of equipment the Club owned when the Tingrith container was broken into last autumn. The Board is unwilling to spend the clubs reserves on new purchases at the present time as money has been “ring fenced” for the possible purchase of Woodland Lake and The Mere at Tingrith. Due to a lack of information from the current owners of Home Farm, the Board has no idea if their offer made at Christmas 2010 has been or will be accepted. This is despite the Club Chairman writing to the Owners’ Agents recently asking for information at this busy time of year when next year’s Membership Book is being finalised for going to print. Tools can be collected by calling David on 01582-413035 or bring any tools you have spare to the AGM which is being held on Thursday 24th March 2011 at 8pm at the Luton Airport Social Club Proctor Way Luton. There is ample free parking and a fully licensed bar.

British Waterways have asked for 3 or 4 volunteer members to dig 4 post holes for steel posts for some new signs at Slapton which should be of benefit to anglers. This will qualify for the work party exemption and the club is looking to complete the work on a Saturday morning from 19th March onwards. Volunteers should contact David Edwards on 01582-728114 to discuss availability.

The club is looking for anybody in the Wyboston area that has any brick rubble. Could they leave it on the grass by the car park or contact one of the Bailiffs on the Wyboston Complex to arrange delivery. The rubble is needed by 3rd April 2011 to help backfill the sleeper retainers in the disabled swims.

Anglers fishing the canal on Saturday 19th March 2011 should avoid the area between Lock 27 Leighton Lock and the Black Bridge as there is a Gocycle Challenge event taking place between 10am & 11am.

Mark Lougher - 24lb mirror carp

Mark Lougher only had one fish when he spent the day at Beckerings Reservoir but the 24lb mirror (above) was a personal best so Mark was ‘well chuffed’. Decent numbers of roach and bream continue to be caught by the pole and tip anglers.

Michael Smith 16lb 12oz mirrorOn the Grand Union Canal Michael Smith tempted a 16lb 12oz mirror on a bait from the A2D Baits stable.

At the South Lagoon Chris Bartlett landed a 19lb 6oz pike with Terry Willison having two 7lb bream and ‘Old Mick’ jnr bream of 8lb 8oz and 7lb 4oz.

So get snapping and forward your pictures to our usual email address catchreports@lutonac.org or send from your mobile to 07704462635.

The Luton AC Board have voted to allow keepnets to be used again on the canal during the months of April and May which is great news for the local match scene as well as pleasure anglers.

A final reminder as the river season draws to a close that Luton AC members can no longer fish the River Great Ouse at Haversham as the land has been sold.
