Chris Bunyan landed an eel estimated at 2-2.5lb from the South Lagoon on the Wyboston Complex whilst fishing with a size 16 hook to a 2lb hook length and a light pole. Chris couldn’t weigh the eel as it bit through the line whilst in his net and in his words ‘was off at the speed of a gazelle’!
Murray Brookes fished for the bream on the South Lagoon and finished with fish to 3.5lb in his 35lb net.
The adjacent North House Lake continues its fine form with Mr Phillips landing the Lobe Tailed Common at 32lb 4oz. M Woodward had mirrors of 14lb 15oz and 14lb 2oz plus commons of 19lb 4oz and 19lb 11oz while A Burridge tempted commons of 25lb, 24lb 3oz, 19lb 2oz, 17lb 8oz, 16lb 3oz, 10lb 2oz and a 15lb 4oz mirror. Also catching at North House was Bruce Starling with a 16lb 12oz mirror and Ivan Sayer a 15lb common.
Close by on the river bailiff Terry Willison caught an 18lb mirror and 6lb bream during a night session.
As reported last week David Edwards caught a 22lb 8oz common on the pole from Bury Lane Fishery and we have the picture this week. This water is a commercial fishery which normally costs £10 to fish but Luton AC members can fish it for just £5 with the added bonus that they can fish at any time during daylight hours whereas non members can only fish 9.30am to 5.30pm weekdays and Saturdays and 10.30am to 4.30pm Sundays. Accordingly it isn’t a heavily fished water but the quality of the fishing is excellent.
Alan Smith and Carl Gibbon were at Beckerings Reservoir with Alan landing a 13lb 13oz common and Carl a 16lb mirror off the top. Alan sent in a picture of his common as well as an 11lb common he caught from North House Lake recently. Both pictures show the effective use of an unhooking mat and also fish antiseptic which every angler should carry.
I visited Woodlands Lake on Tuesday catching so many tench and skimmers I lost count. A combination of pellet and corn proved successful with most fish being caught up in the water at around 4ft depth in the 13ft deep swim. Only one 4lb carp tested my pole with the tench running to 3.5lb and the skimmers to 2lb+ with many hand sized roach something of a nuisance.
Michael Smith did another session on the Grand Union Canal tempting 6 carp to 16lb 8oz in 7 hours on A2D Baits Spicy Crab and Mussel bottom baits topped with an A2D Baits Sweet Plum Pop-up.
Match results:

Luton AC invested over £20,000 in stocking and fisheries improvement work during 2009. This investment is ongoing and is reflected by the number of work parties that took place throughout March, April & May. Membership prices have remained unchanged for this season with all waters except the river sections remaining open for the full 12 months.
The fisheries team are regularly cutting grass at this time of year and this week were seen at Haversham amongst other places. Some small barbel were spotted in the clear shallow river during their visit.
Members can now use the fantastic new secure off road car park area created in May this year at the Great Ouse Lavendon. Access to the car park is via a locked gate using the club key with a further gate allowing access down to the river.
