Fishing continues to improve on a day to day basis at Llys-y-Fran Reservoir, with the majority of anglers irrespective of their preferred method be this Ledgered Worm or Fly, producing good results. Fish are now being seen in numbers feeding close-in on most banks, the majority of these are feeding heavily on the fry that is now abundantly available within these regions.
This feeding pattern has caused a massive increase in the sport now being offered to Worm anglers who either know the water, or who have taken the advice of Ranger Staff on duty. Most Rangers employed at Llys-y-Fran are keen anglers themselves and are always willing to assist visitors to the site in order to make their visit more enjoyable. The present advice given by staff for anglers fishing Ledgered Worm at this time of year is that their bait should be fished close-in and about four feet off the bottom. Those anglers fishing the Fly from either bank or boat are also able to capitalise on this sport, especially when fishing the shallower areas, these areas are becoming more and more accessible as the seasonal drop in the level of the Reservoir becomes more marked.
Floating and Intermediate lines are still producing some of the best results, with patterns that include Flies such as small boobies, Dabblers and various coloured Hoppers. Many Fly anglers are enjoying good levels of sport whilst using the “washing-lineâ€. If the present conditions continue, prospects for the rest of the month should be excellent.
