Once again May has proved to be a month of two halves for anglers visiting Llys-y-Fran Reservoir. The cold easterly winds experienced during late March and throughout April, stayed with us in the first part of May, making life very hard for bank anglers fishing from the east bank of the Reservoir. Despite these conditions, some anglers did produce good bag limits from the methods permitted during the first half of May.
The change during the second half of the month from the easterly winds previously experienced, did see a drastic change in the results anglers then achieved. This change was also recorded across all methods permitted on the water.
During this period anglers fishing either Ledgered Worm or Fly from the bank saw a marked increase in the results of their preferred method from areas such as; “Badgers”, “The Meadow” and “The Field”, whilst boat anglers were catching well from “The Top End”, Point and Dam Wall.
S Jones of Cardiff recorded a six fish limit of 14lbs 6ozs whilst fishing Fly from the bank, this included a best fish of 3lbs 2oz but Brian Dalton of Haverfordwest recorded the best bag for an angler using this method during May. His six fish weighed in at 14lbs 8ozs with a best Rainbow of 3lbs.
For anglers fishing Ledgered worm, two of the best bags recorded were taken by the following; T Mezzetfa of Haverfordwest. His bag totalled 14lbs with a best fish of 3lbs. Whilst Ray Muskett of Tenby recorded a six fish limit of 15lbs 7ozs. Ray a season permit holder did also record the best fish of the month at 5lbs 9ozs, a fish verified by staff on site.
Notable bags for those fishing fly from the boat did see a marked increase in size and quality. Two notable bags during the month were recorded by Newton Lee of Clunderwen with six fish for 15lbs. Newton’s bag included a best fish of 4lbs. Honours however must go to Jeff Bayliss of Ystradgynlais. Geoff recorded a six fish bag weight of 20lbs 5 ozs during the month. Geoff’s bag included a best fish of only 5lbs 1oz. Well done Geoff:
