Overnight rain saw the River Avon carrying extra pace and a healthy tint of colour for the last of this year’s Match Fishing Team Championship qualifiers, and again the fishing was consistent throughout the match length.
Matrix Dynamite Trentmen came out on top, pipping the fancied Kamasan Starlets team by a single point. The team, made up of Ant King, Greg Cooper, Tom Potter, Ricky Marshall and Matt Parkin finished with 50 points from a possible 65. Kamasan Starlets, consisting of Ed Warren, Lee Edwards, Gary Pook, Scott Geens and Dan Ashington were runners up, and local rods Alcester Sports took the third and final qualifying place.
In the individual stakes, the Trentmen teams most senior member, Ant King, lead by example winning the match from end peg one with a 9-12-0 net. After an early bream on groundbait feeder, Ant topped up his net with a host of smaller hybrids, roach and perch on waggler tactics. Alan Stephens took second spot, with a net of perch and eels from peg 42, all taken on maggot feeder tactics.
