Our own Emperor Lakes branded baits have really been the outstanding thing to offer in the Specimen Lake this week with a string of quality fish falling for them. Plenty of fighting fit double fish have been out, Russ Bates netted a common of 15lbs and a ghost common of 16lbs 4ozs, Kevin Johnson bagged a brace at 16lbs 2ozs and 11lbs and a catfish of 18lbs picked up Taff Vanstones Emperor Lakes baits…they do work, so worth considering. Pallatrax baits have also done well, especially Jungle, a creamy mix of tigernut and peanut which is currently proving irresistible to our bigger carp; Dave Wood is an advocate of these baits and proved it again with a smashing 26lbs 10ozs common, quickly followed by another at 16lbs 3ozs and brother Colin also grabbed a mid double and a bonus 16lbs catfish on the same baits! Richworth baits have also accounted for the odd fish this week, pick of the bunch a lovely low double mirror for Louis Russell….. It’s not just the carp which have switched on though, cats are steadily feeding both and day and night, Darren White had one of 18lbs and it’s only a matter of time before one of the really big ones hits the bank. Tench are on the feed too, fish of around 5lbs being the average and Phil Jakes had two lovely tincas this week on PB baits.
On the Carp Lake, it’s new personal bests all the way! Angling photographer Neil Edgar is a fan of Steve Renyard Baits, particularly the Contrast range and used them to smash his pb with a corker of 29lbs! A fish to be happy with, but then he returned and banked a mirror of 38lbs 4ozs too! Pallatrax Jungle feature here too; Mark Stephenson beat his long standing 21 year old personal best with a common of 39lbs 8ozs which was tempted with a pop up Squab hook bait offered on the patented Stonze system. Darren Trott weighed a 35lbs 2ozs mirror which took a fancy to his Splash Baits fluoro pop up to round off a superb week of big fish!
We are now taking booking for new ‘runs water’ Jo-Jo’s which has now been fully stocked with fish to 26lbs; this lake will open on June 1st. Owner David Lidstone had a couple of hours recently and landed a few carp, so they are obviously nicely settled and feeding well.
Aimee’s Pool continues to provide good sport with big roach, chubby crucians and tench making up the bulk of pleasure nets. Standard float fishing tactics are a great way to build an enjoyable bag, maggots, corn and worm catching well….
Emperor Lakes social media is a great way for us to interact with our anglers, so please take time to find us on Facebook and Twitter for up to the minute updates and catch reports.
