The café and shop is now open! After weeks of preparation, the build is now complete, the freezers and fryers are in and working and ‘Chez Emperor’ is now fully up and running! The premise overlooks the lakes, so a hot meal and a drink can be enjoyed on the verandah and you can stock up on Emperor’s own branded baits, Pallatrax, Cornwall Baits and Steve Renyard offerings and much more at great prices. More tackle and other items will be added shortly to cater for both carp and coarse anglers, so if you forget something, hopefully we can help! In the café, you can grab a burger, enjoy chilli, curries or a full English breakfast and loads of other goodies, so be sure to pop in.
The fishing has been fantastic this week, too; our new ‘runs water’, Jo-Jo’s, has gone crazy with huge bags of carp being taken! Sweetcorn accounted for twenty two fish into double figures for Steve Sampson and Dave Miller hit double figures in both numbers of fish and weights when he used a method feeder wrapped in Pallatrax Crustacean Crush mix. New pegs have also been built this week to accommodate anglers comfortably, with plenty of room for a bivvy. At just £8 for the day,and £15 for twenty four hours, Jo-Jo’s offers excellent value for money and almost guarantees a bend in your rod!
The average size of fish caught on the Specimen Lake this week is a very pleasing 25lbs 6ozs. Dave Woods had a brace of double figure commons on Pallatrax Jungle baits and Darren Fleet tempted a 46lbs catfish on the same Jungle offerings. Peter Marriott had one of those long remembered sessions when he netted a mirror of 32lbs, which he followed with a 22lbs fish, then topped that with a common of 32lbs 12ozs all taken on Steve Renyard Baits M25 which have proved incredibly effective on our big carp waters. Emperor own brand baits worked for Russ Baker who weighed a lovely 26lbs+ common, Russ Bates had a trio of moggies to 37lbs 2ozs on halibut pellets and then another angler, Brian Male, after cats for the very first time, hooked into a big fish which gave a good account of itself before being beaten and photographed at 52lbs! A fantastic first cat! A floater caught upper double common carp really capped his visit off, too! Loads of other fish out to a variety of other tactics, so find the fish and keep quiet and you are really in with a chance of a whacker!
The biggest fish taken this week have come off the Carp Lake; the former syndicate can present a real challenge, but several anglers have beaten previous personal bests and taken some proper ‘lumps’. Carl Brown used Tuna bottom baits to trick a 28lbs 8ozs mirror and then used the same rig to take a new pb at 37lbs. Mark Owen chipped in with a 22lbs carp, Rob Pierce returned a 37lbs 11ozs mirror which opted for his frankfurter flavoured boilies and Peter Chmiel presented a Tails-Up baited hook which was sucked up by a cracking 33lbs 6ozs mirror! Emperor has several 40lbs fish on site, many of which can be found in this lake, so if you like a tough water which the thinking angler will enjoy, then the Carp Lake may be the lake for you.
Aimee’s Pool has seen the usual mixed nets and some quality tench falling to corn, pellets, maggots and worm, but the best fish reported this week is a 16lbs grass carp taken on floating crust, so keep an eye on the surface layers for the odd bigger fish.
