Headtorches are now a standard piece of equipment for many outdoor enthusiasts. When not in use during the day they are often packed into the day sack or rucksack. It is during this storage that the batteries for the headtorch can be drained by being inadvertently switched on.
The new Egg headlamp from Ring Cyba-lite avoids such accidental battery drain by utilising a locking function. Holding down the On/Off button for 3 seconds will put the headtorch into a lock mode that can only be unlocked by pressing the On/Off button and holding for another 3 seconds.
The unique design has been inspired by the Egg allowing it to house one white LED and one red LED in a slim, compact design.
The energy saving beam provides a much reduced light output of 10 lumens, but maximises the battery life. At 10 lumens the Egg will last for 120 hours of continuous use. This compares to the 10 hours of continuous use on 85 lumens output.
The red LED is for more comfortable night reading. It can also be switched to a SOS flashing mode to attract attention in an emergency.
All these functions can be accessed by toggling with the On/Off button.
The Egg headtorch has a 90-degree adjustment bracket for positioning the light exactly where it is required.
Weighing only 83grams the Egg headtorch is ideal not only for walkers and climbers, but for runners getting in late night exercise runs.
It is IPX4 rated making Egg water resistant and is supplied with 3 x AAA batteries.
For a limited period, the Cyba-lite Egg is exclusively available at Blacks stores. Suggested Retail Price: £19.99.
