Report by Marlene Mc Laughlin

Cashel Trout Fishery, now in its tenth year, had a brilliant turnout for our annual competition.  The weather was just what anyone could have wished for, slightly overcast with a gentle breeze.  Anglers came from as far away as England, Donegal and Fermanagh in an effort to take home the perpetual cup and trophies which were sponsored by Michael Mc Closkey (Vicky) who also hails from Dungiven.  Nineteen very keen anglers arrived with us bright and early on Saturday morning in preparation for the ‘big’ day.  Assorted lures, ranging from ace of spades to GH daddies did the business on the day.  A total of fifty-nine trout were brought to the bank with everyone watching for the winning trout to appear.

Prizes were awarded as follows:
1st prize Heaviest single trout 10lb 4ozs – Joe Donnelly (Limavady)
2nd prize Heaviest bag of trout 16lb 9ozs – Ryan Young (Limavady)
3rd prize Runner up heaviest bag of trout 10lb 11¼ozs – Alfie Sheppard (Garvagh)
