Anglers Help Raise Money For Charity

It was full steam ahead for the Cancer Research UK Relay for Life Witney team today when they received cheques from fundraising for £5,150.

Treasurer Elaine Bowell and survivor Sharon Woolford were present to receive cheques from Witney Rotary Club and Ellen Kearsey Charity Angling Match. Witney Rotary Club raised £4,000 from a sponsored steam fair using “King George VI” steam engine with friends on tow to help with steam engine duties.

Witney Rotarian John Wharton, owner of the engine said “We had a great day raising money for such a good cause and it was a great way to help a worth while charity”.

Witney Rotary Club and Ellen Kearsey Charity Angling MatchRod Hurll & John Forteath took part in a charity fishing event at Newland AC Stanton Harcourt recently with a record breaking catch bringing in £1,150 for the sponsored fish.

Elaine Bowell, said “All the money is gratefully received and a massive £32,000 was raised from last years event, but we need people to be aware that it is an annual event. We are in the process of recruiting volunteers to be part of the committee for Relay 2010 which is to be held at the Witney Rugby Club on July 3rd/4th 2010.” She added “Anyone wishing to help, either taking part by forming a team, having a stand on the day or anyone wishing to just made a donation, please contact the Cancer Research UK Relay for Life Witney team on 07711 295468”.
