I have a standing order set up to donate to the RNLI each year. I don’t get to fish from a boat as often as I would like, but knowing that there are men and women out there who would put their own lives at risk to save mine is a big comfort. These people are, in my opinion, some of the bravest people on the planet.
If you follow the RNLI on Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/rnli – then you may well have seen this footage that they posted recently of their Bude lifeboat in action.
If not, it’s only short and worth a look. Not the ‘usual’ footage you might see, that of big waves and huge ships, but a runaway fishing boat (not an angling boat on this occasion, I hasten to add!).
Looks like fun, but how they managed to rescue this boat actually required a lot of skill and even more bottle! Had the boat shot off on a different course at any time, the ending could have been a lot different.

Top work by the RNLI yet again. Heroes, the lot of them. Please take a look at their site – www.rnli.org
