When sat looking at the technical marvel that is the Daiwa Tournament Basiair Reel, you have to wonder how it came about. Did the Daiwa decision makers feel there was an important gap in the distance carp reel market that desperately needed filling, or was it more of a self assured indulgence to show the competition just what they could do if they felt like it, in much the same way (although not quite to the same extent!) that Bugatti changed the face of supercar production forever with the Veyron. However it came into being, it is without doubt the most stunning carp reel you could ever own.

It’s fair to say the Daiwa team in Japan pushed the boundaries of design and materials to the limit with the Basiair, producing a truly sublime and beautiful reel weighing in at only 445 grams, yet nothing has been sacrificed in performance to achieve it. Combining ‘AirMetal’ magnesium alloy and ultra light Zaion the BASIAIR truly takes ‘feel’ to another level. A level that is surely cloud nine!
Maintaining the 45mm spool profile of its namesake the BASIAR produces supreme casting and the retrieve of 4.1:1 still brings home a shade under 90cm with one turn. Described by some as ‘pure architecture’, the distinct shapes and design carry a futuristic sculpture and really signal ‘the future of reels has begun’.
