Open up any coarse fishing magazine today and the chances are that you’ll see photographs of a number of anglers wearing various different camouflage tops and trousers. It’s become part and parcel of the angling scene for many of us, especially carp anglers.
I could sit here and debate the pros and cons of wearing camo all day, but, to be honest, it’s been done to death on our fishing forums over the years, so I won’t! Suffice to say, some like camo fishing gear and some don’t!
What does amaze me is how much someof this stuff costs. Don’t get me wrong, some of it is very good kit, but it’s a far cry from my youth, when most of my fishing clothing was ‘liberated’ from the army bins at Colchester Garrison! In fact, going back not-too-many years, ex-military clothing was what many of us used. It was cheap, durable and available in every colour you wanted, as long as it was green.
I still know of a few ‘Army & Navy’ type stores, where new and used military clothing can be purchased, but they are getting thinner on the ground. Thank goodness, then, for Mean And Green, who sell just about everything that’s camo and have a fantastic website, with full mail-order facilities.
The reason for sitting here writing this piece was that two web-offers caught my eye. Due to the very nature of the internet, it’s impossible to say if they’re still running when you’re reading this, but CLICK HERE to check.
The first was the Soldier 95 shirts, which usually sell for £13.95, but were being offered for just £8.95.
These camo shirts are the ones you’ll probably see advertised most in the UK. They’ve been around a while now and have quite a band of loyal followers.
The brand new version of this shirt is £19.95, but the special £8.95 offer was for the Grade 1 used shirts. You can find more details about the grading system on the Mean And Green website.
The shirt that REALLY made me look, though, was the German Camo Shirt. And it wasn’t just the ridiculously low price of £3.95 that caught my eye – it was the pattern itself. This design is a what I’d describe as a pixelated camo design. It works really well as camouflage, but looks quite striking when you’re not trying to hide from the local wildlife, too!
If you fancy a little something different to wear when fishing, it’s certainly one to contemplate, and it will leave you plenty of money spare for bait and tackle!
Mean And Green, as mentioned, sell a wide range of clothing, as well as other outdoor gear. CLICK HERE to pay them a visit today.
