I’ve reviewed a few bits from Fladen recently and, as I mentioned in another review, the rod bags alone make you realise that the Nano Plus range are something special! They are so well padded, you just know that the contents inside must warrant such a prestige bag. In fact, I was so impressed that I rang the editor of a magazine to ask if any other rods he knew of came in such luxurious rod bags. He’s seen a lot more fishing rods than I’ll ever see and says that, although he’s seen one or two like this, it’s very rare!
Anyway, moving on to the rod itself….
The Maxximus Nano Plus range are very nice looking rods; gloss black, with a silver hint on the whippings and a touch of orangey-gold on the butt. Light to hold and with a strong ‘foam’ grip, you could use this rod all day long….which is kind of handy with a lure rod!
The rod I have is the 270cm (8′ 10”-ish) 30-80g model. This is a two-piece rod, with equal lengths. The butt section has one fairly large lined eye and the tip section has seven more lined eyes. The two sections join together snugly.
With a reel snugly attached in place, this rod has a definite solid feel about it. Although light to carry and thin in appearance, it is not floppy at all. I was impressed at just how much power was in the tip. For lure fishing, I want to be in control; I don’t want my rod to be in the driving seat. This rod allows for accurate casting and great control over the retrieve.
There isn’t much in the way of UK fish that this rod wouldn’t stop. To be honest, it’s lure size that would dictate which rod you buy, not target species. Perch and pike will all succumb to the Maxximus Nano Plus and I would also feel very confident using it off the rocks for fish such as bass, pollack, wrasse, etc.
I’m seriously impressed with the Maxximus Nano Plus spinning rods from Fladen. They deserve some attention if you’re after a new lure rod. They might not have the trendy name on them that some people desire, but this is fishing, not fashion, and these are superb rods that will impress you if you give them a try…so do so!
A shorter and longer version is also available, as you’ll see below, along with a beefier rod for those larger lures.
