Wahay! I’ve just found some free fishing books!
Some of my friends assume that, as I work with the internet all day, I must know all there is to know about it. Some also assume that as a lot of my work relates to angling, I must be a great angler (I’ve even been labelled as an ‘expert’ in publications before!). They couldn’t be further from the truth.
In reality, I spend most of my working life doing the same things. I don’t get a chance to explore the big, wide virtual-world. It’s like any other job, really. Those who use the internet for ‘fun’ will usually have a better idea what’s out there than me, that’s for sure.
Same goes for fishing. I’m like the bloke who semi-retires and buys a tackle shop so that he can “do more fishing”. Truth is, when you work in the industry, you don’t actually get that much free time to go fishing. If you want to fish, either do it for fun, or be a bait tester!
Anyway, the point of this is that I’ve just stumbled upon ‘FREE EBOOKS’ on Google. I’m not talking about the illegal copies that are robbing people of their livelihood, which are rife, both in the book world and the world of DVD’s. No, I’m talking about the legal books that you can bagsy buckshee!
Copyright on books only lasts a set time. After that, it seems, anyone can publish it, and that is exactly what Google have done. Obviously, they have done this with a wide range of books, but I managed to spot A Book On Angling by Francis Francis first of all, and a whole host of other books were displayed underneath.
Not all of the books they list were available to download free of charge, so look out for the ‘EBOOK FREE’ symbol if you like to keep your wallet shut, but there were a fair few and some of them are very interesting.
I suppose what’s available is going to appeal more to the angler interested in the history of fishing, or even one who considers themselves a ‘traditional’ angler, but I’d urge anyone interested in fishing to take a look.
