Weekly fishing report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area sponsored by Starmer Baits

Steven Duffy fished North House Lake catching a 19lb 14oz common. On the same venue Jack Hagger tempted a personal best 25lb 6oz common fishing maize over a spodded area of maize and hemp. Paul Higginson and son Aaron were also at North House with Aaron having commons of 25lb 6oz and 10lb with Paul banking an 18lb common. Matt Butler managed a 15lb 7oz common, James Bishop a 28lb 4oz leather, Mark Newman a 30lb 4oz common, Kevin Newman an 18lb linear and Ashley Gowing commons of 21lb and 18lb. Les Hillyard has sent in a picture of a fish known as The Parrot which we reported on last week.

On the adjacent South Lagoon there have been plenty of bream caught in the 5-6lb bracket with lots of silver fish but rather disappointingly the tench have failed to show. Eric Jones struck gold again during a two night session using his own Red Eric Bait with commons of 28lb 12oz, 26lb 14oz, 23lb 8oz, 21lb 6oz, 21lb 4oz, 19lb, 17lb 4oz, 16lb 8oz and 12lb plus mirrors of 20lb 4oz and 15lb.
On the nearby River Great Ouse Steve Hilton landed a specimen perch of 3lb plus 8 others over 1lb all on float fished double bronze maggot on a tiny size 20 hook. Steve tells me he lost a much larger perch on his light tackle and thought the 3lb perch he caught could have troubled the current Luton AC best had it not regurgitated a fish and a crayfish.

Ben Sharp fished the Grand Union Canal catching a nice ghost common.

Rather further afield Luton AC members Steve & Alex Slight have just returned from a holiday in Mexico and in Alex’s words –
“Just returned from holiday in Mexico and whilst there managed to do my first sea fishing trip (usually a carper) but got dad to take me out with Captain Jorge along with a man and his son from Brazil. So we set out from dock in Cancun 7am with a little wave from a local croc called Pancho who apparently calls every morning for fresh water from local people. We were out at sea for 6hrs 20 kilometers out from the Cancun coastline , we trawled for a while and managed to catch 8 Black Fin Tuna , then fished deep waters 180 ft captain Jorge tells us we then caught 5 Red Snapper and a fish the locals call Trigger fish, after this we tried for shark but nothing happened . Then it was a sprint back to shore as our time was up after a great days sport.

All the best from Alex Slight (17) and dad Steve (?)

The Otter fence at North House Lake has been damaged apparently by people climbing over it to walk up to the McDonalds restauraunt on the A1.This will not be tolerated anyone caught climbing the fence will be expelled from the club immediately and the club will take necessary steps to recover the cost of any damage caused. If you see anyone climbing or damaging the fence or have any information about it please contact the bailiffs or fisheries manager as soon as possible. The otter fence cost the club over £15k and was installed to protect the fish stock for YOU the members.
