Anglers of a certain age will remember NBC suits. A lot of youngsters just knew them as ‘army suits’ and many of us had one as our first ‘proper’ fishing suit. They were green, charcoal lined, ‘one-size-doesn’t-quite-fit-anybody’ and readily available.
Those of us in the know even knew what NBC stood for – nuclear, biological and chemical. Yep, these ‘cheap fishing suits’ were actually what the army issued in case of biological warfare. Thankfully, we never used them for their intended use, although some would argue that point if they’d been in a bivvy next to a teenage me!
I don’t sell fishing tackle directly these days, but do keep an eye on the market and came across my old ‘cheap fishing suits’ for less than £5. A couple of years ago, I couldn’t even buy them in at trade for less than that! It seems that there’s a glut of them right now and, as money is tight for many of us, I wouldn’t mind betting they’re flying off the shelves!
