I’ve received a photo of Mark Ridgeways 30lb 2oz Beckerings Reservoir catfish which was reported in last weeks news.
Mark Ridgeway – 30lb 2oz catfish
Marc Hodgson fished a 24 hour session at North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex and was rewarded with commons of 27lb 5oz, 24lb 10oz, 20lb 2oz and 16lb 12oz. At the same venue James Muncaster landed a 28lb 4oz common, Mark Ridgeway a 16lb 8oz mirror plus commons of 14lb 4oz, 25lb 12oz and 23lb 8oz, John Dodds a mirror of 20lb 8oz plus commons of 26lb 8oz, 20lb and 19lb, David Starling an 18lb common and J Weedon a pb common of 28lb 9oz.
On the adjacent South Lagoon Darren Coles banked a 21lb 4oz common while James Muncaster managed a 13lb common along with mirrors of 19lb 4oz (fully scaled) and 15lb, Richard Cinato also tempted a 20lb 14oz common.
Nearby on the river Bruce Smith tempted a specimen zander of 14lb 3oz.
Neville Hunt had a good days fishing at Barretts Mere, I will let Neville tell you about his day ‘ I fished the Mere on Sunday and what a great days fishing. I fished maggots over pellet and caught about 100 rudd and roach approximately 4 to 8 ounces, 30 crucian carp again 4 to 8 ounces a two and a half pound common and a various mix of small skimmers and carp. I was having a fish nearly every cast so decided to try flower petals, I collected a bunch of small yellow and white petals and I still got bites. At midday I had the corners of my sandwhiches left over so I thought I will try some bread wrapped arround the hook and caught fish, then had the same result with a square of crust pushed on a 14 hook, and again caught some more. Then folding small pieces of ham from my leftover lunch and still kept on catching, the fish seemed to be jumping on my hook On leaving Barretts Mere I spoke to some anglers coming for an evening session, who told me that somebody had fished the same swim and also caught lots the previous week. On a slight downside on the 4 occasions that I have fished Woodlands and Barretts Mere twice I have found discarded line, people must have rubbish to take home so put the line in the rubbish and take it with you’.
On the adjacent Woodlands Lake Alec Sharp caught a nice tench of nearly 5lb.
At Beckerings Reservoir Scott Larman had three doubles to 14lb 6oz while Phil Randall managed a 19lb leather and 20lb common. The roach bream and tench fishing is currently excellent at Beckerings with Tony Sessions having 60lb which included quality roach, skimmers to 2lb and eight tench between 1 and 2.5lb. Tonys fishing partner Bill chipped in with a respectable 30lb, top bait on the day was expander pellet.
On the Grand Union Canal Mark Woolley fished a 15mm Starmer Baits coconut boilie over 3kg of feebies to catch 10 carp topped by a stunning 16lb 8oz linear mirror. Mark used Nash 25lb Diffusion Camo Missing Link and size 8 Nash Fang hook.
