The first annual 24 hour New Moon Carp Match was held at Beckerings Reservoir over the weekend of 12th & 13th June. The bright conditions meant that the fishing got off to a slow start and it was 9 hours before the first fish was caught. During the evening James Muncaster landed four mirrors including the largest fish of the match at 23lb 6oz. Also on the score sheet was Bob James and Michael Smith who swapped second position during the night with Bob landing the second biggest fish a 21lb 7oz mirror. Only one more fish was caught when it got light on Sunday morning with Brett Herdman taking a 13lb 13oz mirror.
The final hooter sounded at 9am and the results were as follows:

At North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex Glenn Millier landed a 19lb common.
At Woodlands Tony Sessions had a good day with a good number of tench and carp backed up with a smattering of roach and bream, all on pellet. Regular to the venue Nobby Parkes had another good day and was into the tench on Friday, with 11 gracing the folds of his landing net. Pellet and corn were the winning baits. Luton based Mick Ward had a bumper day of tench on sunday, with 11 fish coming to corn and pellet.
Opening day at Barretts Mere saw the fish in a very obliging mood. Veterans Taffy Thomas, Alan Deacon, and David Delamere caught hand sized rudd one a chuck on Monday, all fish coming to corn. Some very pretty koi were also taken, bringing a few smiles in the process. On Wednesday Taffy, Alan, and Alan’s son Wayne Deacon had another Rudd filled day – Alan taking in excess of 50 rudd, and a number of koi/carp by the time he spoke to Damon the bailiff at 3pm. One angler was reported to have taken a ghost koi of 10lb off the top with bread on Wednesday morning. Dave Brosnan was kept busy catching plenty of roach and rudd on Friday afternoon on a mixture of corn and maggot. He fed off the smaller roach and rudd by feeding a handful of dog biscuits to keep them away from his hookbaits – top tip that! Mark Brooks was also enjoying some frantic roach and rudd sport, and also managed to land a nice gold and black koi in the process – small irregular pieces of meat on the hook was the winning bait.
Luton AC matchman and life member Barry Bashford fished the mere on Saturday with pellet as bait and amassed in excess of 100 roach, 100 rudd, and loads of carp. Despite losing 2 specimens he went home happy. Graham Lawson from Milton Keyenes was into the crucians on Sunday with fish of around 12oz -1lb coming to corn and meat. Bailiff on the water, Damon Smith took his son Peter (10) and youngest daughter Jasmine (9) for a few hours on Sunday and all went home happy after some frantic rudd and roach action – all fish coming to corn hookbaits.

This investment is ongoing and is reflected by the number of work parties that took place throughout March, April & May. Membership prices will remain unchanged for the coming season with all waters except the river sections remaining open for the full 12 months.
This week sees the start of the river season and members can use the fantastic new secure off road car park area created in May this year at the Great Ouse Lavendon. Access to the car park is via a locked gate using the club key with a further gate allowing access down to the river.

Out of the area CC Moore who sponsored the Beckerings Carp Match are holding an open day at The Carp Society Horseshoe Lake Lechlade Glos on Saturday 3rd July between 10am and 4pm. It should be a great event with lots of things going on, competitions, technical demonstrations, special offer prices, practical displays by CC Moore consultants (who will actually be fishing) and lots more.
Anglers like Alan Welch, Ben Hamilton, Kevin Wilson, Gaz Fareham, Phil Buckley, Mike Brown, Jake and Dan Wildbore, Myles Gibson, Adam Randall, Adam Smith and more will all be on hand to offer advice and techincal consultations on a number of angling methods whilst being able to demonstrate them as they fish. This will be a great opportunity for anglers of all ages and abilities to meet and interact with some of the most successful anglers in the industry in a way which is very rarely staged. Handouts will be given to visitors to enable them to get the most information possible out of the anglers they have in front of them. It should be a great learning experience for those who attend and represents a great opportunity to increase their knowledge of the latest methods and tips that have helped these anglers bank some of the most sought-after fish in the country.
Ian Moore of CC Moore will also be there, willing to answer any bait-related questions that relate to their range or other products they have experience of using in baits.
Finally here is an interesting site for you to browse which shows named fish around the country www.ukcarpdirectory.com
