A beautiful weekend brought anglers out in large numbers to Cashel this weekend. Trout well into double figures were caught and released back into the lake.
Maghera’s Bernard Mellon released an amazing twenty-two trout with his heaviest being around 13lb. He was using dries and buzzers. His brother, Martin, released a dozen trout which also fell to buzzers while Mark Boyce (Dungiven) used assorted lures and dries to bank nine beauties one of which was 11.5lb. Aidy Askin (Derry) released eleven trout which took mainly buzzers and some GH damsels. Maghera’s Jimmy Norton bagged two for home weighing a total of 5lb 6ozs but he also released four with his heaviest being 7lb. Dermot Kealey and his friend Daniel Little (Ballinderry) has a great time too playing and releasing a real clinker which weighed 10.5lb. Their trout took a yellow nymph. Claudy’s Kevin Burke brought five trout to the bank on assorted buzzers with his trout being an average of 3lb. Brian Beresford and Derek Mc Laughlin (Limavady) released three and one trout respectively using black lures similar to zonkers and leadheads. John Hasson (Dungiven) released three trout in a couple of hours using lures while Martin Bradley also from Dungiven put in a few hours on Sunday to produce three trout in total with his heaviest being an estimated 12lb. Last but by no means least was Denis Sweeney (Garvagh) with on trout for home which took a black lure.
We are now taking group bookings for any angling club or corporate groups interested in a fun day. Catering facilities are available in the adjacent Cashel Fishing Lodge.
