Christchurch Bay

Launched from Mudeford Quay sometime before first light this morning and headed out into Christchurch Bay. Low water was at 8am so the plan was to paddle out of The Run with the tide and then paddle across tide a couple of miles.

 

Sandwiches are strapped over the front hatch - I'm good to go.

 

Half way to my mark the sun came up over the Isle of Wight.

 

The first hour of the flood the fishing was frantic.

 

 

My main bait was party squid. Unfortunately someone told the doggies who gatecrashed the event. I caught 7 in total and probably lost quite a few too. Next time I will try using humongous baits.

 

On my whiting rig I caught a pollack 1lb in weight. I was fishing over cleanish ground & was surprised to pick this up.

After the first few hours the bites cooled off. As had been predicted the wind picked up before lunchtime. The wind was not quite in the direction I wanted. I paddled back slighty upwind and across tide and didn't get to use my recently fitted sail. I made it back to the Run whilst the tide was still flooding and then tried the sail out in the harbour before coming back in. Works well - will consider putting a rudder on the kayak.

Nice report Speciman, superb pictures of the dawn, very atmospheric, send them into South Today for the weather slot, beats anything I've seen recently.

 

Thankfully, the Lifeboat was not called for one of us Anglers.
